Chelsea has made a fine start to the Premier League season, taking 13 points from the first 15 available.
The current European champions are now the favorites to win the title this term, although Liverpool has an identical record after five games.
The Reds had a quiet summer compared to some of their rivals as the club focused on handing new contracts to key members of Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
And Chelsea is now looking to follow suit by extending the deals of three of their midfield stars.
According to the Evening Standard, Kante, Jorginho, and Mount will be offered fresh terms in the coming weeks.
Kante and Jorginho are both into the final two years of their current contracts, and Chelsea wants to resolve the situation sooner rather than later.
ANDREAS CHRISTENSEN AND ANTONIO RUDIGER MAY BE FREE AGENTS
Mount still has three years to run on his deal but Chelsea believes he deserves a pay rise after his contributions over the last couple of years.
There is work to do in other areas of the squad too, with Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger in line to become free agents next summer.
Christensen is said to be close to penning an extension worth around £120,000 per week, but progress with Rudiger has been slower.
The Germany international is thought to be holding out for £200,000 per week, which is more than Chelsea are prepared to pay.
Rudiger will be free to hold talks with foreign clubs in January, and Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and PSG have already shown an interest.
“I hope that they find solutions, but it’s not only between coaches and players, and what we wish for,” Thomas Tuchel said of his compatriot’s situation.
“And that’s why it’s between the club and the player’s agent at the moment.
“He’s in the strongest league in Europe, in a big club, so not many reasons to change that. But in the end, it’s between him and the club, and that’s in good hands.”
XHAKA ABOUT TO BE SNAPPED BY JUVENTUS
After spending last season on loan with the club, Weston McKennie’s move to Juventus was made permanent this past summer.
Juventus is said to have paid around €18m to land the midfielder.
Despite the recency of his Serie A switch, though, rumours spread last month that the American was in fact not in the plans of the new boss, Massimiliano Allegri.
Reports stemming from Italy then suggested that Tottenham was keen to sign McKennie on loan, but Juventus was not interested.
A somewhat surprising report on deadline day also claimed that Burnley had been offered the chance to sign the midfielder.
McKennie, in the end, stayed put in Turin for the time being. However, he is already being touted for a January move.
Aston Villa would be linked with the American at the back end of August.
GRANITE XHAKA TO BE SWAPPED WITH MCKENNIE
And now, as mentioned above, another Premier League outfit is now being credited with an interest in the USA international.
A London-based media outfit citing a report stemming from Italy, claims that Juventus is readying a swap offer for Xhaka, with the Italian outfit prepared to offer McKennie.
It is not mentioned if this were to be a move that could take place in January or one for the summer.
But if it is true that Allegri has no plans for McKennie, perhaps both the club and player may be looking to sever the ties as soon as possible, which would be January coming up.
McKennie has featured just twice in the Serie A so far this season, with both of those games ending in defeat for Juventus.
